  • Essay / Animal Cruelty - 854

Every day in every province of Canada, animals are beaten, neglected, abused and abandoned, forcing them to fight for survival. Every second, enormous numbers of animals suffer pain worse than you or I could ever imagine, around the world, at the hands of humans. (http://www.animal-rights-action.com/animal-cruelty.html) How would you like to sleep in your own filth, feeling abandoned and unwanted, struggling to figure out what your last meal might be? Left in unsanitary conditions, with little or no food and water, they have little hope of survival or compassion. Living on the little hope there is for a better future. Some were found and rescued, given a chance to survive with love and live a great life, where others are not so lucky. Having no control or fault in the matter is just too much to handle, no real excuse or reason, just giving up. The treatment of animals is unethical and wrong. Ethics being defined as the moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conduct of an activity, our world is governed by it, yet animals are still forgotten. To grow not only as a community but as a nation, we must stand up and fight for the rights of these animals, and speak for them and with them. One of the first steps in protecting animals is creating a safer environment for them, such as creating effective cruelty laws. Make it clear to everyone who owns a pet that this is not an easy or cheap job and that it is their responsibility to treat this animal as if it were a child. There are two types of animal cruelty: passive cruelty and active cruelty. Passive cruelty involves omission, abuse results from neglect.
