Essay / The Book of Joshua - 701
The Book of Joshua is a historical book about the conquest of the promised land. Joshua was most likely the author of this book since he was present when it took place; except for his death, which is said to be written by a high priest named Phinehas. Joshua was the man God called to lead the people of Israel into the land of Canann after the death of Moses. Of all the Israelites who escaped slavery in Egypt, only two early peoples made it into the Promised Land, Joshua and Caleb. The Israelites were on their way to the land God had promised them and they encountered many battles along the way. The Gibeonites were a very large and powerful city. But they were afraid because the five kingdoms of Adoni-zedek king of Jerusalem, Hoham king of Hebron, Priam king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon: who surrounded them, united against them. . So the Gibeonites tricked Joshua into making a peace treaty because they had seen what Joshua and his army had done to Jericho and the surrounding cities and they knew that God was with them. The Gibeonites were dressed in old, dirty clothes, sandals, and wore moldy sandals. bread and old torn wineskins to make Joshua believe that they came from a distant city and were seeking refuge. Joshua made a peace treaty with them before consulting God. Therefore, when the five cities attacked Gibeon, Joshua had to honor his word and fight with him. God was with Joshua and He promised that he and his army would overcome the others. In this battle, God performed a miracle. Joshua asked God that the sun would stay over Gibeon and that the moon would stay over the Valley of Aijalon. Therefore, he remained in daylight for 24 hours during the battle. The Bible... middle of paper...... will provide for our needs. In Joshua it was specifically about the battles for the Promised Land, but today the meaning is that God is always faithful. Listen and follow God's way instead of ours and see how God can work miracles! See how prayer can do amazing things. Listen and follow God's way instead of ours. See how God can work miracles! See how prayer can do amazing things. I want the kind of faith that can make mountains collapse into the sea. I want the kind of faith that can make the sun stand still, it's just amazing how this happened. I know I can have this faith if I just let myself step out of my comfort zone. If I would just let myself become the person God intended me to be. It’s an amazing story that raises so many questions about life. I wish God were here today to walk with us and make this place we live in a better place.
