If readers are given graphs, maps, and grids, then they are forced to see Owens and Sawhill's argument through real-life examples and demonstrations. They state that “study after study reminds us that higher education is one of the best investments we can make, and President Obama has called it an “economic imperative” (page 208, paragraph 1). Sawhill and Owens emphasize the ethical approach by stating that President Obama says it is extremely crucial to the economy that higher education is the best investment we can make, when they used President Obama, this really establishes a strong connection with the reader because they are then able to relate to this statement because President Obama is an important leader of the country. They also use research to achieve the point of their argument in "Should Everyone Go to College?" »: “Research suggests that additional education improves overall well-being by affecting things like job satisfaction and health. , marriage, parenthood, trust and social interaction. Additionally, education has social benefits, such as reduced crime rates and higher political participation” (page 210, paragraph 3). It really gets readers thinking about the extent of political participation.
