The film Amistad begins with a group of Africans, captured from a slave market in Havana, on a ship named Amistad. The film offers a reconstruction of the journey of slaves between Africa and the United States of America. The Amistad was written by David Franzoni and published in 1977. David Franzoni is well known for his film King Author. The constraints of the film are the beginning. The extreme graphics presented will perhaps cause someone with a weak stomach to turn away from watching the film in its entirety. The Middle Passage was a long and touching journey that Africans traveled. The main reason for the film is to manifest the capture and liberation of slaves in the 1800s. At the beginning of the film, Cinque finds a way to free himself from the chains as well as the other captured passengers who were with him. The slaves begin attacking the ship's Spanish crew chiefs, thus pardoning the two who purchased them. The two men who bought them promised to take them back to Africa, although they tricked the slaves and guided the ship to the United States of America. During the journey, the slaves were in terrible conditions and were fed scraps of food from specific people. Not everyone was allowed to eat. The Africans found themselves in a Northern courtroom. John Quincy Adams, Joadson and Tappan defended them in this case. Former President John Quincy Adams talks to Cinque about his trip to try to determine where exactly the Africans came from so they can pursue the matter. It is difficult for them to communicate because they speak two completely different languages. Midway through the film, James Covey is introduced. James Covey is then used as an interpreter for the communication of Cinque and English...... middle of paper ...... effect of the Amistad voyage. The film Amistad appears to be based solely on the slave trial and federal district courts. A lot of valuable information is left out of the film. Spielberg did a wonderful job with this film. For people who expect to be given straight facts when watching historical films, this would not be the best type of film to watch to gain knowledge. As for anyone watching for entertainment, this movie will hold your attention. Although the film is inaccurate, with information, it has a well-constructed story and is not overwhelming when the court scenes take place. Cinque's role presents a possible experience of slaves captured in Havana and brought to the United States of America. Overall, this movie had its pros and cons, in which the pros outweighed the cons..
