Writing Task #3: Federalist #10The main issue that Madison addresses in this essay is that Madison believed that factions could be dangerous, i.e. violent and cause damage. One of the strongest arguments for the Constitution establishes a government highly capable of controlling these factions. Madison defines factions as a group of people who come together to protect and promote their particular economic interests and political views. According to Madison, factions can be majority or minority. These factions work against each other, ultimately leading to working against the public interest. Basically, factions are political parties because people act on common passions or interests. Madison mentions two ways to solve/control the faction problem: removing its causes or controlling its effects. There are therefore two ways of eliminating the causes of factions.
