    Indie Games: Then and NowIndie Games. They are becoming more and more popular, not only because of new technological developments, but also because of their uniqueness and creativity in their fully developed games. Indie games have become more popular since 2012, thanks to opportunities supported by Apple, Microsoft and Sony. It's a shame, though, because indie games started in the 1950s, back when there weren't major publishers like Activision, Ubisoft, Rockstar, and EA. Little by little, they must have acquired their fame. First of all, what is indie gaming? Indie games are games created by small teams of 1 or more people, hence the name indie, which is short for independent. These small teams don't have a major publisher to publish their games, so they self-publish their games online through the App Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, or PlayStation Store. In fact, some of the biggest developers like id and Epic were once independent game developers (Griliopoulos). This genre of gaming only became popular in the latter half of the 2000s (Buzzle) and was not reintroduced until the 1990s when PC gaming gained popularity (Pathetic Reviews). Around the 90s, the internet was introduced and people were using it. Independent studios believed that even if they were a small team, they could still create games that could change the video game industry. Unfortunately, the Internet was not as popular as it is today, so independent developers lost their chance (Pathetic Reviews). Why do they exist then?
