    The skeletal system has several functions as well as serious diseases and disorders. The skeletal system serves to support the body as well as protect vital organs. The skeletal system is made up of 206 bones, male and female, the quantity of which is the same depending on age. There are some interesting facts about human bones. For example, humans and giraffes have the same number of neck bones. The Femur is stronger than concrete and it is hollow! The skeleton performs several functions such as supporting the body, protecting vital organs, and producing blood cells. For support, the skeletal system uses a series of bones such as the femur, fibula, tibia and spine (Figure 1). The skeleton has a few joints throughout the body, such as the hinge joint located at the kneecap and elbow joint. These two joints are called Ginglymus or hinge joint.
