  • Essay / Texting while driving, a win or lose situation.

    Drivers die more often from texting in car accidents than people who drive under the influence. Drunk driving is very dangerous, but they always know what they are doing. You have to look away from the road to send a text message or dial a number. Texting while driving in Oklahoma and everywhere else in the world needs to be stopped, other people's lives would be saved. The statistics all over America are very high because people don't even take the opportunity to not think clearly about what they are doing. There are laws in Oklahoma that have been implemented, but they don't prohibit texting while driving, they are still trying and won't stop. It’s a win-lose situation that puts many people at risk. This is a major problem and we hope that one day it will be banned everywhere in America and everywhere else in the world. Texting while driving should be banned in all states that have not yet banned it, including Oklahoma. Distracted drivers are the leading cause of car accidents in the United States. (“Texting in a Driving Accident”) This means that people feel the need to pick up their phone just to respond to a simple text message and the next thing that happens is someone's life could possibly be taken. As a result, more than 3,000 car accidents occasionally occur due to texting while driving. (Van Wey) Oklahoma is one of nine states that has yet to ban texting while driving a vehicle. (South) Senator thinks the reason Oklahoma hasn't yet banned texting while driving is because new technology allows people to text and basically tell our phone what to do without taking your eyes off the phone.
