In medieval times, knights-errant roamed the countryside of Europe, saving damsels and defeating evil lords and enchanters. This may seem strange to many people in this day and age, but what if a person reads so many books that they couldn't determine the real one from what they read? The Adventures of Don Quixote by Miguel Cervantes is a great example. Don Quixote, formerly Quixana, was not a don at all. He was a wealthy, intelligent farmer who excessively read books about knights errant and became irrational. He persuaded a naive peasant named Sancho to become his squire, promising him fortune and a high place in society. The book consists of many adventures that these two had, both were convinced that they were performing brave and honorable acts of chivalry, even though they were just two fools running around the countryside. Oedipus has much in common with Don as well as many differences. Oedipus becomes king of Thebes.
