  • Essay / Burger King Sells Oral Sex Pictures - 769

Fast food advertising is a billion dollar industry. Advertisers use gimmicks such as celebrities and cartoon characters. Many fast food chains have their own cute character to represent them. These characters grab the attention of young preschoolers, tweens, and teens. The current famous athlete or pop musicians are used to advertise fast food and again appeal to tweens, teens, and adults in their 20s. There are commercials that tell you, “Mom needs a break tonight,” “tell her you want (any name of fast food restaurant) to have dinner tonight.” There are advertisements that show beautiful, slim women eating fast food, usually with a look of satisfaction on their faces. Finally, let's not leave out the handsome shirtless man; great abs, drinking a coca cola in one hand and on the tailgate of his pickup is a large order of fries and a double cheeseburger. Fast food advertising focuses on all ages of consumers. These are fast food advertisements for Burger King. The advertisements were aired in Singapore in 2009 for private franchise Burger King to promote the new seven-inch sandwich. These are erotic ads that are demeaning to women and should never have left the ad agency. The two ads are very similar, except for the woman in them and the bold capital letters. In the first ad, we see a photographed side view of a wide-eyed blonde woman with her mouth open, the sandwich is lined up to go into her mouth. . In the right corner, the text says "IT JUST TASTES BETTER", next to that phrase is the Burger King logo. Just under the woman's chin, in bold white capital letters, "IT'LL BLOW YOUR MIND AWAY." Beneath this bold print, once again, another photo of a sandwich, with the phrase "BK SUPER SEVEN INCHER" in the middle of the paper...that this advert is unconsciously demeaning to men as well. The advertising glorifies the sandwich as being thick and measuring seven inches. So, guys, if you're not excited, you can't satisfy and please a woman. Marketing departments and businesses are expected to sell their products however they see fit. The best way to get people to buy their products is to use simple, sexual advertisements that attract readers or the market. However, this ad was criticized by Mark Duffy, an advertising copywriter at a major New Your City company. During an interview with FOXNews.com, this BK commercial was the "worst" he has seen in his career. Mr Duffy also called it “unappetizing”. Needless to say, the slogan never served its purpose.
