She is in the hospital and feels sick. The doctor arrives and tells her that she is pregnant. She's shocked.Keturah Pickens, my little sister, now a senior at University Academy, was 16 when she found out she was pregnant. A million things went through his mind that night. “I was sad, disappointed, angry and upset,” Keturah said. During all the quarters, Keturah was oblivious to the world. When she had the baby, her emotions didn't change drastically. “I felt the same way, I just had a baby to take care of a baby. I was young, it happened unexpectedly, so I was not as excited as pregnant and well-prepared mothers,” Ketura said. When teenagers find out they are pregnant, their entire lives change. They now have someone else to take care of instead of themselves. Ketura knew nothing about raising a baby. “It’s a bit of a challenge but it’s still pretty cool.” “Yes, it’s hard because you know you still have to go to school and then come home to take care of the baby,” she said. Even when parents are angry with their daughters, they continue to care for and support their child. Ketura has her entire family supporting her as she raises her daughter, Kamryn. “Yes, I probably have a bigger support system than others. My grandparents help me a lot; emotionally, mentally and just with Kamryn. At first, Ketura felt like no one was there, but she was never alone. When she found out she was having Kamryn, she locked herself in the room for days. It wasn't until the family spoke to him and told him everything would be okay. My grandmother wasn't the happiest about the news but that didn't stop her from comforting her grandson... middle of paper... ...r, she has a job, a car and takes care of her son. Keturah had a normal teenage life; going to school, spending time with friends and being carefree. Today, a year later, she is still in school. “They need to hurry up and give me my diploma,” Keturah said. For two years, Keturah has been waiting to graduate from University Academy in Kansas City, Missouri. He only has a few weeks left to graduate. Her story shows that having a baby doesn't stop you from achieving your goals. This makes things a little more difficult but it's not impossible. Having a baby at a young age doesn't ruin your life. It will be a challenge, your life is dedicated to the baby and your teenage life is put on hold. But it's worth it.
