  • Essay / Power, wealth and love in The Alchemist, in Hedda...

Throughout the 20th century, our outlook on life has not changed much from the past. Many of us still crave power, wealth and love. In Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabler, he demonstrated that some people still desire authorities. In “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho, he illustrated the value of wealth. Finally, in “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” by Lisa See, he emphasized the bond between men. Every individual has the right to create their own reality because people have unique characteristics, they are determined to survive, they have value and they have dreams to pursue. Although there are many of us in this world, each of us is still developing. differently and each of us has unique characteristics. Sometimes a situation can help create a unique characteristic. In "Hedda Gabler", Hedda, the main protagonist, was born into a wealthy family, but married a poor young scholar, Tesman. Hedda's unique personality was acquired when she was wealthy, and as Tesman's aunt had said, "Well, you can't wonder – General Gabler's daughter!" Think of the kind of life she was accustomed to in her family days” (Ibsen 2). Money is one of the insurmountable barriers between Hedda and Tesman. So, to justify her own reality, she manipulates others as if she were still the general's daughter. Sometimes being hungry for energy can also create a unique characteristic. Like Judge Brack in “Hedda Gabler,” he believes he has the power to do whatever he wants. His particularity is explained by the fact that he was a man and that he was a judge at the end of the 19th century. A quote to represent this would be “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely” (JFSCF). Robert G.
