The Role of IT in EmploymentIntroductionComputer science has changed significantly from, say, 20 to 30 years ago to today. At that time, no one would have imagined that computing would soon play such an important role in the world as it does today. 20-30 years ago a secretary writing documents using a typewriter had to be very good at typing, if you make a mistake on a typewriter it cannot be deleted because it is already printed on the paper. This is why Tipex was used a lot, although it would still make the work look messy, as you would see the stain made from Tipex. In this class, I chose to write about my mother and how she uses computers. My mother is a housing association manager and currently uses the family computer at home and works in an office in south London for work. Here are the five technologies I'm going to write about about how my mother uses computing for her work:* Internet (World Wide Web, email, encryption)* Internet connections (Modem, ISDN, ASDL, broadband)* Mobile phones (SMS, WAP)* Storage media (DVDs, zip disks)* PC technology (software, hardware, laptops)I I will also compare how computing affects my mother today versus how it would have affected it 20 to 30 years ago.[IMAGE from Microsoft Technology]
