  • Essay / Cell phones and driving: dangers linked to cell phones...

Most people do not respect the rules and regulations of the road. Most people don't even know they are breaking the law because they do it so often. Talking on cell phones and driving has become a very popular activity these days. Technology is coming out with the newest phones that can do everything for you and people are attracted to that. There are people who don't have their hands free and drive their car with one hand, people who text and completely take their eyes off the road and have conversations. Bluetooth is another technological advancement in which you wear an earphone and can receive phone calls by simply pressing a button on the earpiece. This alone takes our attention away from the road and onto the cell phone. It's ridiculous and everyone has these gadgets and drives their car day in and day out. Whether it's talking with your hands, talking via text or talking hands-free; are all dangerous. It's likely that everyone has talked on a cell phone while driving a motor vehicle. I believe this is a very serious problem we are facing and there is little enforcement. I have five different sources who all say that driving and talking on the phone is dangerous, even deadly. The Governor Highway Safety Association (GHSA) walks us through cell phone driving laws and has created a chart showing states that have cracked down on cell phone use with laws. They say several states restrict cell phone use while driving. This shows us that this is a problem and that states are passing laws to control drivers to follow the rules and be attentive on the road. 29 states have collected data on crashes related to cell phone use and driving. 9 states have preemption laws. 5 states have hand...... middle of paper ......elf, or another person due to unimportant conversation that could wait depending on the reader. Stop and talk. Remember, you have voicemail for a reason.
