  • Essay / New ending for Madame Bovary - 1009

Emma had found herself in a situation that she knew was horrible and there was little she could do to get out of it. The man who lent her the money was coming to take their house and she knew Charles would find out. In a frenzy, she jumped into the couple's horse and buggy. It was up to Emma to make things right. As she was traveling, she noticed a man following her on a black horse. A horrible pain shot through Emma's stomach, she just knew it had to be Charles chasing her. Meanwhile, at the couple's home, Charles was preparing to meet a patient. The couple's daughter, Berthe, came running into the room: "Dad, dad, where is mom?" "I'm not sure honey, she was here a few minutes ago," Charles replied. Berthe put her hand on her hips and said, “Mom was supposed to play tea party with me today!” Charles crouched down and took his daughter in his arms. “It’s okay darling, mom will be back soon, I’m sure.” » He said, kissing her head. “Now go play while daddy finishes getting ready.” Berthe lowered her head and slowly left the room. Back in the car, Emma does her best to keep her balance. “It’s not Charles,” she kept repeating to herself. The man on the black horse came closer; she heard the sound of the horse's hooves hitting the ground in thunderous rage. She leaned out the window to shout her husband's name, as the rider passed by, he met Emma's eyes, then raised his head and continued on his way. Emma stepped back with a sigh of relief as the car entered the city. She told the driver to stop and got out of the car to look for the man who lent her the money. When she went to her office door, she found that it was locked and that the man had disappeared. In her mind, she... in the middle of a paper... in the distance, she saw a figure approaching her on a black horse. She knew it wasn't Charles, from the way he moved with the horse as if they were one. The man got off his horse and approached her. Emma remained silent, shivering from the cold and rain. When the man was close enough, he locked eyes with Emma again. “Emma?” he asked. “Yes,” Emma replied. The man pulled the jacket from his face and took off his hat. Emma's eyes lit up with excitement, "Leon!" She shouted, jumping into his arms. “Yes my love” replied Léon. The two shared a passionate kiss. “Why are you here?” Why aren't you in Paris? » asked Emma. Leon looked deep into her eyes and said, “I love you and you needed me.” Leon lifted her off the ground and put her on the horse. They left in the rain completely in love. Works Cited Flaubert, G.
