  • Essay / A Hero, President Abraham Lincoln - 677

“A hero is someone who has given his life to something greater than himself” by Joseph Campbell. The question comes to mind who is this hero, it's quite simple, it's not. Aside from Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, he was such a great person that I consider him a hero in my book. He was the one who served as president during the Civil War, which was the bloodiest war on American soil. He was also the one who freed the slaves, that's why I consider him a great hero, I mean, no one but him had the courage to say free the slaves during the presidency. Abraham Lincoln is a hero for standing up for freedom for all and believing that everyone is equal. Abraham Lincoln ran for president in the 1860s. It is believed that he was chosen because he did not have extreme views on slavery in the sense that he rarely spoke about slaves during his campaign. During election days, “My wife and I were staying with friends. I'm drinking tea when a young man bursts in the door saying that Mr. Lincoln told him the news of the election. I am shocked to have had one of the elections and coming from a poor family, my wife did not believe that I would be elected nor I am then filled with joy. "The news spreads like wildfire that the underdog wins the election and the South is furious, they create a rally and the Southern governors get together and start talking and finally come up with a plan to break away from the North and create their own nation. Then comes the huge problem which is that the North has no slaves but the South does but they are people moving west and now there is a bitter debate about what will happen if one of these colonies becomes a state will it become free of slaves or with slaves it becomes a debate and Abraham Lincoln...... middle of paper ...... uh say him that these are rights for all, which means that slaves should not even be a thing anymore” and so everyone agreed and so he created a pact that stipulated the freeing of all slaves. At the end of the Civil War he then became one of the Amendments, so slavery was completely eliminated in America, that's what made him a good man. In conclusion Abraham was a hero to me because he freed the slaves and was a great leader to all. This event was important because it gave equal rights to everyone and black or white were all equal and that was something that no one touched in a nation that thought everyone was equal. .This is why I think Abraham Lincoln is a hero to everyone who believed that everyone was equal. The lesson is that no one should have their freedom of rights taken away and if they are, these are the people who will defend you. Abraham Lincoln is a hero to all.
