IntroductionThis report will describe the issue of genetically modified foods, providing context on the issue and its social importance. Additionally, the report will identify the parties involved and the various arguments relating to the issue.2. What is Genetically Modified Food (GMF) Genetically modified foods (GMO) are foods derived from organisms whose genetic material (DNA) has been modified in a way that does not occur naturally. Currently available genetically modified foods come primarily from plants, but in the future, foods derived from genetically modified microorganisms or genetically modified animals will likely be introduced into the market. Most existing genetically modified plants have been developed to improve yield, through the introduction of plant disease resistance or increased herbicide tolerance. The main genetically modified foods are corn, tomatoes and soy. These are three important items on any list of genetically modified foods, but there are several others, including dairy, cotton, oil, papaya, sugar, golden rice, potatoes, blueberries , fish berries, salmon and sugar beets.2.1.
