Marcus thought it was the perfect opportunity to perform his mother's favorite song, 'Killing me softly'. Once again, Marcus didn't care about being humiliated, as he had before for singing the same song. This time, he knew it wouldn't happen in front of some students in his class, but in front of everyone who attended his elementary school. When the time came to perform, Will went backstage and tried to convince Marcus not to perform because, as he put it, it was "social suicide." Will even suggested playing something that kids their age would play, sing or dance to, he refused and continued with his performance. At first the children yelled at him and insulted him, but Marcus didn't care, he wanted his mother to be proud of him so he sang their song. It was then that Fiona realized what a wonderful son she had and how wrong she had been all along by ignoring Marcus. To Fiona and Will's surprise, Marcus finished the show to loud applause from the crowd. After everything Marcus had been through in his life, he knew that everything he did for his mother would pay off when he saw that she was going to fight to overcome her depression. I can understand the frustration Marcus felt at not being able to do anything to help his mother with her problems. When I was his age, my parents were also going through a divorce. Even though my mother didn't attempt suicide, I know she was depressed, who wouldn't be? I noticed how much my mother had changed, physically and emotionally.
