    Many people are influenced by other people and feel pressure to do something that makes them uncomfortable. This is called peer pressure because people of all ages are persuaded and convinced into something they wouldn't ordinarily do. The outcome can be good or bad, because the person being influenced knows how they feel about the decision they made. In the short stories Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell No Witchcraft for Sale by Doris Lessing, they both give a sense of peer pressure. However, how can this problem be solved? To begin with, the first example of peer pressure is found in the short story. George Orwell shooting an elephant when the policeman came under pressure from the crowd to make a quick decision. The story takes place in Moulmein in lower Burma, in a small village. The townspeople were disrespectful to the officer as they would be rude and disrespect him. “When a nimble Burmese tripped me on the football field and the referee (another Burmese) looked away, the crowd screamed with hideous laughter” (page 1319).
