Instead of being incarcerated, an offender may be able to complete treatment programs, obtain much-needed counseling, perform community service, and make amends for the crime. If the offender successfully completes the terms of the drug treatment program, their charges will be dismissed. This protects offenders from employment discrimination and is intended to allow people to learn from their mistakes and return to their lives without the burden of a conviction. Thanks to technology, we are better equipped to monitor those who are under house arrest rather than being sentenced to prison. Early intervention is very important and could potentially change the way our system works. Statistics reveal that children raised without fathers, in low-income families, tend to commit more crimes. If more preventative measures were geared toward children, there would be fewer juvenile trials, which would ultimately lead to fewer adults.
