The media described African-American women as “angry black women.” “And who are the black women you see on the local evening news in cities all over the country. They’re usually mad about something” (Melissa v. Harris Perry 87). The media has stereotyped black women as loud, argumentative, irrationally angry, and verbally abusive. These women are only standing up for equal rights and are therefore seen as angry for speaking out or standing up for what is right. We are seen as angry because they think their actions are right and we should be okay with that. African American women weren't having it and the media said whatever they wanted, good or bad. The employment of African American women was skewed because they were women and were said to not be as strong as men. Women were not allowed to receive education because "it was not necessary or because women are expected to stay at home, cook and clean." Black women did not receive the health care they needed because of their complexion and most of them died because they were too sick.
