Rap and hip-hop are two of the many genres that receive a lot of attention due to their violence, drug use, and degrading sexism towards women. Hip-hop began gaining a lot of attention in the 1980s as a vehicle for equality against racism. People thought hip-hop was just a phase and no one would care after a while.
