  • Essay / Essay #4 - 647

In this article I will discuss the six Astika or Orthodox Hindu systems. I will talk about the central concern of each, some of the key words and concepts of each, their relationships to each other, and how I feel about the ideas presented. I will first develop the Nyaya Hindu system. The central concern of the Nyaya system is to categorize thought. The Nyaya system is known for its emphasis on logic and debate. People who follow this system see that the problem in people's lives is that they must resolve their ignorance of the proper nodes of thought. The only solution to this problem is to seek knowledge of padarthas. According to Nyaya teachings, the only things that can be considered real are atoms and substances. Additionally, the Nyaya system accepts four of the pramanas or paths to knowledge and the Nyaya teachings provide us with the five-step argument which shows us the right way to hold a debate with a person and how you can consider them unreasonable if they breaks one. rules mentioned in the five-step argument. Like other Astika darsanas, Nyaya accepts the pramana of verbal testimony. Similar to Nyaya, the solution to the problem in the Samkhya system is to seek knowledge but knowledge of tattvas and not padarthas. There are a total of 25 tatvas or principles accepted by the Samkhya system. The Samkhya believe that the five senses evolved from the combination of the two basic elements of Prakriti (female) and Purusha (male). This idea of believing in two distinct entities is what makes Samkhya dualists. The Samkhya say that the main problem is ignorance of natural systems and the only solution is knowledge of tattvas. Like the Nyaya, Samkhya accepts...... middle of paper...... everything comes from natural sources. Puruva Mimamsa is different from all other darsanas because it accepts all six pramanas. In conclusion, I think that some of the ideas presented in these six systems are very accurate and applicable to everyday life. I agree with the moral doctrine of Yoga which states that we should practice non-violence with each other and I also find the five-step argument presented by the Nyaya system to be very applicable to debates and arguments of today. I also felt like the idea of yoga being about rebalancing the mind and body is a pretty relevant point, which is why so many people join yoga classes and practice Hatha Yoga because it works obviously. There are points in almost all of these darsanas that I think could and should be applied to daily life. It just depends on the problem you are facing in your life..
