Mindfulness is the key to having an adventurous and exciting life. Not only does this allow for many alternative perspectives on how one perceives an experience, but it also allows one to go beyond the capabilities of someone who is stupid. Life without mindfulness is no life at all. Throughout this article, I will explain some of the main concepts Langer discusses in his book, use these concepts for application, and incorporate "mindfulness and the psychological process." One of the most common views in education is that to learn a skill you have to practice it until it happens. Performing skills over and over again only results in careless interaction with that skill, and thoughtlessness is a limitation to discovery. Discovery often arises because of a gap in the basics. While trying to learn to play the guitar, I realized that I was using this concept of mindfulness. I found that no matter how hard I tried, I was not able to perform because it was second nature to me. Initially I thought this was a problem; but, after reading Langer's book, I realized that it allows me to be mindful during my practices. Langer explains how the standard approach to teaching new skills relies on either lecturing to instruct students or using direct experience to instruct students. Langer suggests a third method that she calls “lateral learning.” This involves maintaining a state of mindfulness characterized by alertness to distinction, openness to novelty, sensitivity to different contexts, awareness of multiple perspectives, and orientation in the present. Lateral learning allows for unlimited distinctions to be produced, and these distinctions are essential to mindfulness. Repeatedly, as Langer points out in his ...... middle of article ...... environment. Those who are able to better adapt to their environment are more intelligent. Being Honored, I always thought intelligence was cramming as much information into my mind as possible. I took what Langer suggested and applied it to my life. Although I don't know quantum physics, I have an understanding of my environment that goes beyond that. A conscious person has unlimited possibilities to handle situations. Mindfulness allows us to control our every movement. It increases our ability to learn, increases our chances of success, increases our happiness, and basically improves our lives in ways that would be impossible otherwise. I believe Langer would agree that mindfulness is essential to achieving one's true capacity as an individual, and this means that we know implicitly that there is no absolute standard of action..
