3D Modeling Concepts Course EvaluationI learned a lot about 3D modeling and how it can be used. The course began on September 6, where I was introduced to Klee Miller, a man who had worked on a film, The Polar Express. I have to say I was quite impressed, considering that was what I wanted to get into at the time. I came to college thinking I wanted to work a lot with 3Ds Max and create a lot of special features for films, like Klee Miller did, but now things have changed. As you can see, in this essay I am going to be brutally honest about my entire experience in this course. I think this is the only way for me to really write this essay. The course began by teaching us the history of 3D modeling and how it was first used in films such as "Superman" and "Terminator 2". This definitely caught my attention, since I wanted to do exactly what we were talking about, or I did. We then started modeling elements in the 3Ds Max program. Talk about things such as creating basic shapes like circles and squares. We also learned about polygons and how each object can be modified by adjusting the smaller polys within it. This was all so new to me and frankly quite boring. I mean, making circles and squares was cool to me when I was a freshman, but being reintroduced to it during college just didn't have enough of an edge to maintain my interest. So my attention span started to wane a bit. But then we touched on one of the topics that I found very interesting. Next, we talked about how you could put a "skin"-like feature on top of your models. This really interested me because without good skin for your model it is just bland and has no real features. Because in real life things are alive and dynamic and when you start modeling in 3Ds Max I noticed things are dull and boring. You have to bring your objects to life, and I learned that you do that with cartography. We learned that there are ways to map to achieve stunning visuals with low poly counts due to different game engines being able to handle different amounts of polys..
