Meister Eckhart's sermons open the way to God through practice. The Heart Sutra emphasizes control of the senses to reach God and (Meister Eckhart says that a righteous person lives in God and God lives in him). Every work done for righteousness gives joy to God. Likewise, the Heart Sutra speaks of the perfection of wisdom. The Heart Sutra teaches that realization is a form of enlightenment and it sets out practices for not being taken in or dominated by the senses or skandhas so that we can find enlightenment. Master Eckhart also says that when a person is free from attachment to the ego and remains free and empty in this present moment for the most precious will of God, then he will be a virgin just as certainly as he was before to exist. Both teachings tell us to be free of characteristics. Eckhart's philosophy emphasized the divinity of man. He frequently referred to the spiritual connection between the soul of man and God. Eckhart taught the importance of calming the mind to be receptive to the presence of God. While the Heart Sutra is based on Buddha's deepest teaching. The Heart Sutra is about practicing to achieve a state of peace. The first lines of the sutra deal with the five skandhas: form, sensations, perceptions, memory and consciousness.
