Growing up in an American society, I had the privilege of attending American schools. Since I started school in second grade, I have had the chance to learn about some of the greatest Americans; among them were George Washington, John F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. But what my history classes, intentionally or not, left out was Malcolm that I started learning about Malcolm Even though we watched the movie, we never talked about the importance of Malcolm X during and after the civil rights movement. I wonder why we never study Malcolm class. Among these people are the three I mentioned earlier; George Washington, John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr. George Washington, founding father and hailed by the entire nation, owned slaves. John F. Kennedy, an American president, patronized by everyone, was not beyond reproach. He had an affair with Marilyn Monroe while he was married to Jacqueline Kennedy. Similarly, Martin Luther King Jr., considered the leader of the civil rights movement, cheated on his wife with another woman. The crimes they committed were extremely immoral, but we continue to learn about and idolize these men as some of the greatest of all time. We learned them from elementary school to middle school. Yet we rarely hear about Malcolm X. Although he was not perfect like George Washington, John F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King, Malcolm .lm X promoted racism in every way possible. In fact, this can be seen as a self-defense mechanism to justify his falling in love with a white woman. When he began working on the Autobiography, he was still part of the Nation of Islam and therefore still had his racist worldview. And it seems that in order not to appear as a hypocrite, he could have justified his relationship with Sophia, a white woman, as a way of getting revenge on the white man. Truth be told, Malcolm X, at first, dated a studious black girl named Laura. Together, they attended men's dances and it was at this time that Malcolm X met Sophia for the first time. Following his meeting with Sophia, Malcolm began dating her instead of Laura. From this simple act, we can see that Malcolm X had no hatred towards white people because he chose to date a white woman rather than a black woman..
