    Silence in The ChosenIn the book The Chosen, the four main characters have different views on how children should be raised. Danny Saunders was reportedly raised in silence. Danny was raised in silence to the extent that communication was cut off between Danny and his father, except when they were studying the Talmud. The reason Danny's father didn't talk to his son is because Rabbi Saunders wanted Danny to think for himself. Reb Saunders also wanted Danny to grow up the same way he himself was raised. Rabbi Saunders does his best to make his son's soul ready to take on the task of leading the Jewish people. The reason why a person must have a strong soul is so that they can bear the burden that Danny's followers will place on them. Rabbi Saunders believes that just talking to his son in Talmudic discussions will improve his son's soul. This is why Reb Saunders raises his child in silence.
