Instead of working with and helping each other, women compete for the ultimate prize: love and social status of a man. Society doesn't give women many privileges unless they give up their freedom for a man, but not when they give up their freedom for a woman. Mothers and their relatives are socially accepted and enjoy economic security. When a woman walks in the street, she will be insulted when she is alone or with other women, but she will be left alone if she is with her man. Lesbians do not benefit from these privileges because they have "little direct interest in maintaining the current political system since all its institutions – the church, the state, the media, health care, schools – strive to keep it in place.
