  • Essay / Predictive Policing - 1183

Information technology has advanced in multiple ways in society, where organizations have implemented the structure in their work environment. Industries have outsourced their manufacturing to other locations around the world and rely on telecommunications to ensure marketing. Geographic distribution has changed considerably by reducing the distance required to carry out an operation, thanks to information technology. These are just a few examples of how this advanced technology has reshaped our society and continues to do so. The New York Police Department has structured certain computer applications to help it optimize its performance in reducing crime compared to street patrols. Some of the implications involved in information systems are input, processing, output and feedback. Computer statistics (COMPSTAT) uses geographic information systems (GIS) to help police respond to crimes more quickly. Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threat analysis (SWOT analysis) are evaluated within the framework of predictive policing. All these topics will be covered in this document. America's police departments needed a more effective way to share information across geographies to help prevent and respond to crimes more quickly. After 9/11, the fusion center strengthened its security operations to collect better intelligence. Fusion centers are regional and very effective when it comes to providing information to local governments. Bart Johnson started as a police officer 32 years ago and has seen many changes at the police department's fusion center. According to (Roberts, 2011), Johnson states: “With better intelligence, you can focus resources where they are needed most” (para. 3). CompStat: critical point to consider.
