Essay / Pursuing a Pharmacy Degree - 854
If a classmate tried to claim that majoring in pharmacy is extremely difficult, I would be their nemesis. As a college student, I see many students pursue certain professions because they know their college years will be a breeze. I was never one of those students. Over the past two years, I have matured and learned many things through my involvement in school. Being a pre-pharmacy student taught me to strive for excellence in my classes and other daily activities. Spending hours studying chemistry was just one of the experiences that influenced my decision to pursue a career as a pharmacist. During my junior year of high school, I started working at Long John Silver's. One day while I was working, my manager suddenly started vomiting and sweating uncontrollably. I was extremely paranoid and immediately called 911. My manager was rushed to the hospital and was treated for his condition. I later found out that my manager had a reaction to a medication he was taking. It was this experience that made me want to pursue a career in pharmacy. Finding out that a single prescription can have such an impact on a person's body was mind-blowing. I wanted to learn more about prescription drugs and what makes them so powerful. To start, I signed up for an AP chemistry class during my junior year of high school. For the first time, I was extremely intimidated by something. I have always been a smart student, so my fear of failure led me to make an appointment with my advisor and my mother. I stated that I had to leave the course because it was extremely difficult for me. Something inside me told me to stay in class, so I did. Finally, I figured out chemistry...... middle of paper...... me a glimpse of what happens in a pharmacy and pharmacy school classroom. Days spent working with computers at school and at work also helped me efficiently enter prescriptions into a pharmacy database. Being among healthcare professionals inspires me more every day to want to become a pharmacist. Additionally, making a positive impact on someone's life through the field of pharmacology is important to me. Being able to interact with patients and explain the importance of many medications is something I will enjoy. Through my admission to a Pharm D program, I hope to gain knowledge and skills that will allow me to become a successful pharmacist. In my own career as a pharmacist, I will strive to serve my patients not only as a pharmacist, but also as a friend, supporting them in their most difficult times, and as a mentor, guiding them to experience a healthy life..
