I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, the home of wild cats. I have always wanted to help the University of Arizona, ever since I was in high school. I have always been captivated and intrigued by the interactions and evolution of human beings. Specifically, the growth and development of children into adulthood, which is what attracted me to the FSHD specialization. My interest in working with children and learning how they develop comes from growing up with two younger sisters. One of them suffered from deficit hyperactive disorder. Being the older sister of two working parents, taking care of my sister was a huge daily challenge. Every day was an unpredictable day, one day she was calm, relaxed and peaceful. Whereas the next day, she was super active, impulsive and aggressive. I was forced to find solutions to deal with each situation and be able to overcome the challenge for a day, until the next day came again. Having this experience in my life is one of the many reasons I became interested in family studies and human development. We focus not only on children with disabilities, but also on every child in general, because every child is different and unique. The development and behavior of each of them is influenced by many factors, and this is what I find fascinating, although working with children is one of the things I am most positive about in what I do . I’m not quite set on a specific career yet. Being a FSHD student has definitely introduced me to the many ways I can pursue a career working with children. Two of the career paths I have debated are family therapist or child specialist. As a FSHD student, I really hope to find the career of my choice with all the options that have been presented to me. I also had the chance to gain knowledge about human development, but also about close relationships between humans, including marriage. I believe that having an education is of great importance, especially having an education in a field that you will have a career in because you will basically be dealing with other people's problems. Having an education also gives you credibility, which gives the people you work with confidence in what you do or tell them. Most importantly, education gives you opportunities and opens doors to be able to do anything you want and be successful. Keep in mind: this is just a sample.
