  • Essay / Love in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth - 802

When comparing A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth; there are some similarities that can be discussed such as: the difficulties of love, magic and the meaning of events that happen day and night. On the other hand, there is a difference that can also be discussed: one was written as a comedy and the other was written as a tragedy. Comedy usually begins chaotically and ends in order, while tragedies are written starting in order and ending in chaos. This is evident in Macbeth when the main character Macbeth begins in the play as a loyal individual, but towards the end he begins to become an unstable murderer. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, the main conflict is between love and social relationships. The play revolves around the magical power of love that transforms many lives. As a result, it emotionally engages the reader by reminding us of the madness and capabilities of love, as well as the violence often accompanied by lust. This play shows the conflict of passion with reason. For example, the father featured in the play Egeus represents tradition and reason while Hermia represents passion for love and freedom. Aegeus wants Hermia to marry Demetrius and accuses Lysander of having "bewitched" Hermia with charms and love songs. It is a way of presenting the difficulties of love in the game between father and daughter. Additionally, Helena recognizes the difficulties of love when Demetrius falls in love with his best friend Hermia. Helena argues that strong emotions such as love can beautify extremely unpleasant things. This is another way in which the play presents romantic difficulties between lovers and capricious emotions. Magic is introduced into the play through the fairies ruled by Titania and...... middle of paper ......s recognizable. Macbeth becomes delusional throughout the play, causing him to become a darker character and not knowing when to stop letting his ambitious ways interfere with rational choices. Light begins to appear in the play as the characters begin to see how Macbeth is losing his mind and worry about having him as King of Scotland. These are some key points that we can use to highlight the events that occur during the day and night and how they relate to the comparison of each room. In conclusion, there are many similarities between A Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth. Through these similarities, individuals can compare how Shakespeare uses romantic difficulties, magic, and events that occur during the day and night to aid in the plot of the play.
