    With all the shootings and random acts of violence, like the Colorado movie theater shooting or the Sandy Hook shooting, stricter gun control laws are a hot topic in politics and in the major national media. . The government believes that stricter gun control would help reduce the number of tragic incidents. I am against this idea because I believe that law-abiding citizens will be the only ones to abandon their weapons and that criminals will then have the upper hand over the innocent. Even though banning guns is supposed to save lives, cities like Chicago have already shown that stricter gun laws should not be passed because violent murders are still prevalent in these types of cities and strict gun laws haven't worked the way they were supposed to. gun laws simply won't work because law-abiding citizens will be the only ones following the rules. When it comes to violence, stricter gun laws will only help criminals hurt more innocent people. The reason I believe this is because during the years of prohibition in the United States, people were still able to find alcohol and there was nothing the government could do about it. Drugs then became a huge problem and the government still hasn't found a way to stop all drugs from reaching users. The exact same thing will happen with guns. There is no stop to supply and demand and if a criminal wants a gun, he will find it.
