    In Islam, Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer and contemplation. It is the ninth and holiest month of the Islamic year (Ramadan). Ramadan is believed to be the time when the Holy Quran “was sent down from heaven, a guide to men, a statement of guidance and a means of salvation” (fasting in Islam). Muslims are using this time to focus on their faith. During Ramadan, Muslims are not expected to eat or drink from sunrise to sunset and to avoid bad thoughts and behaviors. Ramadan celebrates the guiding light of the Quran which protects humans from evil and vice and leads them towards good and virtue (The Spirit and Ramadan). Fasting is the third pillar of Islam. All healthy Muslims must participate in a fast during Ramadan. "When the soul enters a station of gratitude and submission to its Lord, through fasting, it recognizes that life has been given by God as a gift and trust to be used for good works which reflect mercy, compassion, love, generosity and so on” (The Spirit and Ramadan). Not being able to eat or drink teaches humans self-control in the face of temptations and evil. Fasting is also considered a means. to purify the soul and show empathy to those less fortunate in the world (Ramadan) Fasting is an orderly spiritual exercise that relies on discipline and generosity. and grateful. The Prophet Muhammad said: “If one does not abstain from lies and false conduct, God does not need him to abstain from his food and drink” (The Spirit and Ramadan). If fasting does not affect someone or their habits, there is no point in participating in it. This month bridges the gap between rich and poor. Fasting inspires generosity of wealth and time to help...... middle of paper ...... h which focuses on devotion to Allah and self-sacrifice. It is known as the “month of blessing” (Ramadan). During this month, Allah had revealed the first verses of the Quran. During Ramadan, scriptures are recited in mosques. This month is a celebration of God's guidance through the Quran. During this time, Muslims fast with nothing but enthusiasm. They are filled with joy. Good deeds are carried out as much as possible and generosity is in everyone. Ramadan allows Muslims to become altruistic and refocus on those around them. People use this month as a time of change. More prayers and good deeds are performed during Ramadan. Muslims transform themselves through their good deeds and draw closer to God through fasting. “My servant continues to draw closer to Me by performing additional righteous deeds until I love him” (Prophet Muhammad).
