  • Essay / Christianity and Islam - 1290

Both Islam and Christianity come from a common foundation as religions of peace, these two religious traditions share the fundamental peace element of their beliefs. In the sacred texts of Islam and Christianity, peace is a virtue and is seen more as a feeling of well-being than as a simple absence of conflict and violence. Global peace is found in unity with God, as Christians and Muslims learn to live lives of peace with others, not only in their own communities but throughout human society. The Quran in Islam and the New Testament in Christianity are respectively the principal sacred texts of these religious traditions. Both the Quran and the New Testament express the importance of peace and peacemaking, as reflected in the Beatitudes of Jesus: “Blessed are the peacemakers.” The search for inner peace is the central message of the Quran and the New Testament, and followers of both traditions learn that inner peace will come through faithful dedication to God. The word peace is mentioned over ninety times in the New Testament. and in other passages the quest for peace is discussed without actually using the term. In the New Testament, the life of Jesus is the perfect model for living in peace. Having a close relationship with Jesus and his teachings will allow the adherent to experience this peace. For Christians, achieving inner peace means following the example and teachings of Jesus. Groups within Christianity will have methods to follow Jesus' example. Most often, they include the use of prayer, reading the scriptures, participating in the broader community, serving others, and Sunday worship. Maintaining a constant balance between service and prayer is essential for Christians to find inner peace. Service...middle of paper......and dedication required by the member. These requirements include putting aside one's selfishness in order to submit to the will of Allah. The more the adherent submits to Allah, the more intense the feeling of inner peace will be. Both Christianity and Islam have clear guidelines when it comes to adherents finding inner peace in their lives. Christians must follow and copy the example set by Jesus in prayer and service to the community. The teachings and life of Jesus are found in the New Testament, which provides Christians with guidance toward inner peace. Muslims must seek submission to Allah by following the five pillars of faith and the example of the Prophet Muhammad. The necessities of the Five Pillars of Faith are clearly demonstrated in the Quran and the example of the Prophet Muhammad can be found in the Hadith. These are the texts that guide Muslims towards inner peace..
