(topic #2) The Giver is actually one of my favorite books of all time, so I looked into why she left the book so inconclusive in the past. The Giver is basically about a boy named Jonas who lives in a perfect society. He lives in a home with his two parents and his little sister Lilly. When he reaches the age of 12, he undergoes a huge ceremony and all the elders assign their task to him. In this community there is no lying, stealing, racism, pain, sunshine or color. Jonas was chosen to be the catcher, and he didn't know what to do because this job was very important. Jonas then undergoes training with the current Receiver, who is now The Giver. The training involves The Giver passing on memories of times when the community was not what it is today. The memories transmitted are things that are normal to us. Memories of sun, snow, pain and sorrow. The ending of the book is very controversial and extremely infuriating for most people. Lois ...
