Mid-Range Theory Theory's responsibility is to provide nurses with standards that strengthen practice, and for the future understanding and delivery of nursing care. Basically, it provides nursing professionals with a proven way of thinking on how to handle certain situations with proven results. The importance of nursing theories for nursing research is that the knowledge offered gives nurses the foundation to communicate with others and best practices. According to McEwen & Wills (2011, p. 35), mid-range theories are theories that have concrete concepts, are specific, incorporate a measured number of real-world concepts and features, and are tested for accuracy . The development of theories regarding postpartum psychosis, postpartum depression, and motherhood blues is grounded theory, which is a process of theory identification that allows the researcher to obtain the information necessary to explain the characteristics general understanding of a problem, while establishing a theory.
