If you took a close look at the population of the United States of America between the 1960s and 1990s, you would notice an increase and a decrease significant proportion of the country's population. . If you look at these statistics closely, you will notice that the number of murderers, and more importantly, serial killers has reached an all-time high. Serial murders reached an all-time high during this four-decade period. In 1960, their numbers began to slowly increase from fewer than ten to forty. Worse still, the number exploded to 120 in 1970. That number then exploded to 200 in 1980. Fortunately, that number dropped to around 140. There seemed to be some sort of serial killer epidemic going on. The murder rate in America reached a terrifying level in 1970. 1960 to 1980 and slowly declined in 1990. The homicide rate averaged 80%. There were 9,000 recorded homicides in 1960, 18,980 in 1985 and a staggering average of 24,530 in 1992. These statistics demonstrate the phenomenon of the serial killer epidemic. The population of serial murderers increased quite dramatically in the late 1960s. There are several theories as to why the number peaked so high. The population exploded in the 1960s, producing more people. When you have more people, you have higher populations of different types of people, thus increasing the population of serial killers. Criminal investigations were not as advanced during the outbreak. Different cities and especially different states did not connect and share their records on arrests and crime reports very often, thus prolonging the murderous careers of these killers. There are several different reasons or theories as to why the population of serial killers began to decline during this time period. the 1990s.
