Essay / Quilting-Patience, peristence and percision
The goalFor my personal project, I decided to explore the concept of sewing. At first my goal was to be able to sew and design a wedding dress, but then I changed the subject after realizing how stupid that was and how difficult it would be because I didn't know how to sew clothes, so I changed the subject. sew a quilt. I chose this goal because I love sewing and wanted to broaden my horizons in this area and be able to do something with it beyond just patching holes in clothes. I decided to learn a new skill and apply it to create something that would be useful and maybe even help me find a skill that I enjoy and would like to continue using in the future . I decided that since I was learning a new skill, I would choose a learning approach like AoI, because learning a new skill can teach you a lot of different things such as patience, perseverance, and even accuracy . This process has allowed me to learn as I go along what works and what doesn't, each new mistake may have set me back a step but it has also helped me in my quest to discovering how quilting works and the steps and difficulties that each step of the process creates and allows me to solve problems big and small, thus working on my problem solving skills that will be useful to me in the future. My initial question was: “How does culture define design?” ” although I changed it to “How does learning a new skill affect patience and perseverance?” » because the culture part didn't really apply to my research or my project. , I changed it because quilting requires a lot of patience and perseverance. I chose this survey question because learning a new skill can lead you to learn new personality traits such as patience, due to...... middle of paper... ...requires a large amount of precise movements to get the fabric just right. It's in the actual sewing piece, however, where perseverance comes in. You have to get the seams and tension perfect or you have to go back, unsew and re-sew over and over again. I made the mistake of having seams that were too wide and not straight as well as having the wrong tension on my machine and had to unsew and sew my fabric more times than just getting it right the first time, but, if I wanted to finish my quilt, I would just have to keep moving, persisting. I can conclude that learning a new skill, like learning to sew a quilt, affects your patience and perseverance by requiring you to be patient and slow when cutting and forcing you to go back and look at the work that has already been done. and if it's not done well, try again and try again.
