    This film managed to capture its world and all the horror and beauty it contained while changing some things to keep up with today's audiences. Hrothgar went from a strong, wise, and faithful husband to a loud, drunken womanizer who fornicated with monsters to create more horrors. Beowulf went from an incorruptible hero with unwavering loyalty to his king to a man willing to put aside his loyalty in exchange for the promise of kingship and power. Monsters, such as Grendel, are also altered, so that they can be seen in a light that makes them appear human and identifiable. Grendel himself has gone from a monster who only wants the destruction of Hrothgar's men to a human-monster hybrid who craves affection and feels shame and pain. Grendel's mother is transformed from a horrible, hideous witch into a beautiful seductress who seduces Beowulf and Hrothgar with promises of power in order to give birth to two powerful sons. The Dragon is transformed into Beowulf's son, but he retains the same destructive rampage that leads to the death of his father and many of his people. Along with the evolution of their personality, their destiny has also changed to make it more accessible. Beowulf dies after single-handedly fighting the dragon at the cost of removing its arm. Hrothgar names Beowulf his heir and commits suicide by jumping into the sea. Grendel and the Dragon both die
