    Parks, squares, main street, shopping malls, among others, are considered public spaces. The ideology of public space dates back to “the Greek agora and its function as: a place of citizenship, an open space where public affairs and legal disputes took place” (Moseley). Across the country and even the world, local government can create places designed for people to gather, meet friends, take a lunch break, or just enjoy the view. Usually, public spaces are designed for the comfort of the citizen and for the comfort of the “public”. Modern urbanized cities tend to focus more on public space and create public spaces for children, such as playgrounds and parks. They create public spaces for everyone. Living in an urbanized environment generally indicates little space for physical activities since most people live in apartment buildings and if the weather permits, many may spend their afternoon strolling in a park or simply doing window shopping on Main Street. Usually, rural dwellers have so much space on their land that they do not rely on local government to create public spaces for them to enjoy their afternoons or outings. Public space as “public” as it claims to be can have invisible limits or restrictions for individuals that do not meet the “expectations” of the desired audience it can target or neglect individuals based on their economic position or their gender which will be explained later. The main objective of this essay is to describe the promise and danger of public space. The main objective of public space is positive. Public space contains various positive or promising aspects of their existence. On the other hand, it seems that the audience is chosen by certain individuals and not everyone is considered part of the audience. Public spaces are supposed to be pleasant and those who do not make it pleasant, such as the homeless, tend not to be allowed access to public spaces. Public spaces create positive and negative aspects in society but despite the negative effects, they are necessary because they constitute a large part of society..
