Feralia is for the passing of the dead and Pomona is the goddess of fruits and trees. Digging for apples was an activity they did in honor of Pomona, as apples were a symbol to her. The Christians wanted to replace Samhain with All Saints' Day in 835. Children celebrated All Saints' Day by doing the Danse Macabre which translates to Dance of Death. The Danse Macabre is used to summon the dead (University of Albany p.1). Christians created All Hallows Eve, the day before All Saints' Day, to convert pagans (Harrison College). Halloween is often seen as a holiday where people can be scared and others can scare for fun. This aspect of Halloween became very important after the introduction of Michael Myers in 1978. This also marked the beginning of the Halloween tradition of releasing horror films in October (Hicks). Most people celebrate this holiday today just for the sweets and fun. Few people know the history of Halloween and how it became what it is today. When people think they know the history of Halloween, they often confuse it with another day known as the Day of the Dead.
