How do you define high school and college success? Is it because of standardized test scores, graduates and college applicants? Is it by winning games and playing beyond school? Yes, actually, it's all of those things. America is based on freedom and equality. America is created with “liberty and justice for all.” America is only now beginning to treat women as equals. Although Title IX has improved athletic opportunities for women, the ratio of funds to women's and men's sports is unequal due to the primary revenue that men's sports bring to schools. As universities grew in population and pride, football became the new sensation. With the prevalence of "soccer schools" throughout the country, women's sports programs have not received much attention. Football finances schools thanks to its huge, crowded stands. The revenue generated was funneled back into football programs and left few funds for any other sport, men's or women's. In 1972, the nation finally decided to take a stand and require schools to create and sponsor other women's sports teams, in addition to cheerleading and square dancing. Title IX was signed into law in 1972 by President Richard Nixon. It “demands” gender equality for boys and girls in every federally funded educational program. Many people don't even know that Title IX exists, or if they do, that it applies to more than just sports. However, this applies to sport, access to higher education, vocational education, education of pregnant and parenting students, employment, learning environment, mathematics and science, sexual harassment, standardized testing, and technology.
