Essay / The Pros and Cons of Parenting - 770
For decades, and perhaps until the end of time, parenting has been a subject on which people have widely divergent opinions. Most people would agree that being a parent is definitely “work,” and a challenge at that. But what is our job as parents? What makes the perfect parent? Does he make the law? Is setting high standards? Maybe it’s just about providing unconditional love and support? Parenting is not a single action, but a combination of style, approach and behaviors. There are four different parenting styles: authoritative parenting, authoritative parenting, permissive parenting, and uninvolved parenting. Yes, the stakes are high: raising confident, competent, independent children to become productive, happy adults who can think and speak for themselves is the challenge for all parents, regardless of their style. parental. Authoritative parents want their children to make decisions. for themselves. They believe that effective discipline means simultaneously setting firm limits while treating their children with respect and dignity. An authoritative parent will offer support and lend an ear to encourage positive decision-making by trying to respectfully guide their children toward finding their own solution. They believe that children should have an opinion on the rules and want to have their opinion. They try to handle disagreements fairly and respectfully. Authoritative parents know they are in control and tend to have the respect of their children because even though they are in charge, they are not dictatorial. They are not afraid of having their ideas or ideals challenged nor do they find it necessary to become authoritarian just to prove a point or to view challenges as personal attacks on their authority. Authoritative parents in the middle of a paper...a very damaging way to raise children. The debate over the strictness or indulgence of parents is endless. But I think most people would agree on this: being a parent is hard work. Although there isn't really a set job description, the "job" of parenting is difficult and the responsibilities are broad. A parent should: Reveal their worth to their children. Model and teach responsibility. Allow failures. Teach their children to get and stay as safe, healthy and happy as possible. Being a parent doesn't mean having to be an authoritarian control freak, it means having the courage to make decisions in the best interest of the entire family, even if that choice is unpopular. Your children don't have to love you every minute. In fact, you're probably not doing your job if they are. Parents are not the only influence on their children, but they should be the best influence.
