    Plato's “Allegory of the Cave” illustrates metaphors that are meant to contrast what readers believe to be truth and reality. In the story Plato tells, he presents the reader with an allegorical tale in which an individual struggles to discern between appearance and reality, as often what is presented to individuals is only an illusion. Although “The Allegory of the Cave” was written in ancient times, it can still be used in today's world due to all the censorship the public is subjected to. The cave that Plato speaks of is known as the place where prisoners are chained and unable to turn their heads to see exactly what is going on behind them. Behind them there is a path and a fire which creates a shadow over everything that happens on the path. The shadow is the only thing the prisoners are able to see, so it is what the prisoners perceive as reality.
