Across the world, in every moment of everyday life, a person is faced with a moral dilemma, whether tiny or monumental. Going against one's religious or moral beliefs can be problematic; it can actually be so moving that it causes the person to re-examine their entire thought process. Regardless of their age during the Holocaust, many faced incredible ethical dilemmas. Many Jewish leaders faced moral dilemmas and made heroic decisions; many made life or death decisions to save themselves or others from the Nazis' horrific plans, denied Nazi orders in order to protect their loved ones, and many helped others survive. Crisis situations and heavy consciences Being placed in a moment of crisis is difficult, it can actually cause a person to question their own morals, allowing them to see how far they will go. During the Holocaust, many people had to choose between life or death to protect their loved ones. No matter the cost, people made these decisions with a heavy conscience. In September 1942, a Jewish medical student administered lethal doses of morphine to many Jewish patients to spare them the inhumane death that the Nazis would inflict on them (Nevins). This medical student took action against what the Nazi Party had in store for Jewish patients. He killed many people to protect them, regardless of the consequences that would come later. “…the major opened the door and found four Jews and his faithful Polish servant preparing food for the others.
