Sex sellsThe desire to be desired. High-end fashion advertisements are best known for their breathtaking qualities! Constantly on the verge of crossing the line and being considered culturally unacceptable, these ads individually convey a common message and appeal to young women. They promote sexuality and make their image a desirable part of the reader's identity. Due to their high price, these advertisements are only aimed at a privileged few, the elite class, but the identity displayed in the image depicted is marketed to a large number of consumers. High-end fashion companies should refrain from demonstrating a false illusion of elite class that they display through sexuality, as it generates a fictional upper-class fantasy and identity crisis for young women. This is what many young women fantasize about and this is why advertisements from high-end fashion companies, like this Calvin Klein ad, demonstrate it in their campaigns. The Calvin Klein ad depicts a young woman lying topless by the ocean on volcanic rocks. Her breasts are covered by the arm of a shirtless young man who is lying behind her. Their body language displays strong sexual desire for each other. The young woman has her eyes closed while lighting up an orgasmic facial expression, while the young man's eyes make direct contact with the reader. The rocks they are on are very dark and provide a dark contrast to the woman's bright yellow jeans, which immediately catches the eye. Once that focus is achieved, it would be hard not to notice her perfectly tanned and toned abdomen, attracting special attention with the display of her ever-so-desirable hip bones. Middle of paper... They continually try to shock society by printing provocative, controversial and borderline culturally unacceptable advertisements. The advertisements convey a central meaning concept of sexuality. They do this by presenting women as sexual objects, appealing to all variations of young women. Whether it's fulfilling an individual's desire to be desired, allowing the reader to escape by creating a temporary false identity hinting at sexuality, or fulfilling a woman's fantasy of desire to be controlled by a man, the commercials use shocking advertisements to unconsciously imply a strong, controversial, message to consumers.
