Causes of Teenage PregnancyThere are many different situations that teens get involved in that can lead to teen pregnancy. Many teens don't understand the risks of sex. Today's adolescents are growing up in a culture in which their peers, television, movies, music, and magazines often convey covert or overt messages that sex outside of marriage (especially those involving adolescents) is common, accepted and sometimes expected behaviors. To find out what are the real causes of teenage pregnancy, I interviewed a few teenage girls about their experiences and encounters with pregnancy. If teenagers were more educated and less influenced by the media, teenage pregnancies would decrease. One of the biggest problems in teenage relationships today is trust. The problem is not a lack of confidence but rather an overconfidence. Many teenage girls tend to trust their boyfriend/sexual partner too much. I interviewed Kaci and an 18 year old college student and she had a lot to say about trust issues. "My boyfriend Scott and I hadn't been dating very long but we had known each other for five years. Because we knew each other so much for a long time, I trusted him completely. After all, he had never really done anything big enough to break my trust. We started having sex about four months into our relationship, but we always made sure we had a condom because I wasn't going to do it without protection. One night he came over and we started having fun, almost immediately I got up and grabbed a condom and gave it to him and thought he put it on. Then we. We started having a little more fun and finally had sex. Later that night, after he left, I went back to my room and in the middle of a paper......e about the consequences of the. sex, so maybe they would think before having sex at such a young age. In society, it seems like everyone blames parents for teen pregnancies because they didn't raise their children properly. Society may be right to sometimes blame parents, but the media has a much greater influence on adolescents. Many teenagers don't listen to their parents and instead turn to movies, television and music to learn about life. As long as the media continues to produce films and music that reinforce sexual behavior, more and more teenage girls will become sexually active and teenage pregnancies will increase. Something must be done to combat these immediate causes of pregnancy, otherwise teenage girls will never understand how serious sex and pregnancy are.
