The Chaser,” by John Collier is a short story about a young man, Alan Austen, who is desperate for love. Finding true love takes time and some people will never find it. Alan Austen has been struggling to find true love and is looking for a way to find it quickly. He is ready to try anything for love. Austen is looking for a potion that will make Diana fall in love with him. He doesn't want just anyone to fall in love with him; he wants Diana. Unfortunately, he is pursuing a false love and he will live a miserable life if……. Austen will realize that living without love is better than forcing love. In John Collier's "The Chaser", Alan Austen feels desperate to endear himself to Diana and ignores the warning signs, but will eventually regret his rash decision to seek out the old man's potions. Alan Austen locates a man who sells love potions, but ignores the old man's warnings and he still wants him. The old man is smart and tells Austen about the glove cleaner first. He warns Austen about the potion and its seriousness. Austen doesn't realize that the old man is trying to tell her that he won't want the potion after all. Austen doesn't understand what he has gotten himself into. He's so desperate to find love that he doesn't realize he's doing it the wrong way. He buys the love potion from the old man. From his past experiences, the old man knows that he will be back soon for the glove cleaner. Glove cleaner is a dangerous poison, very dangerous and expensive. This was said to Austen, but he didn't think it would be necessary. Unfortunately, he was wrong and desperately needs iAusten ignores what the old man says about "false love" and buys the potion anyway. Alan Austen just wants someone, Diana, to fall in love with him. He wants a companion and someone to enjoy life with. Austen doesn't want to work for it. He wants it to appear for him. True love takes time and two people are perfect for each other. Austen wants to force love so he buys the potion. He doesn't listen to the old man and buys the potion. The old man knows it's only a matter of time before he returns. Aan returns to buy the expensive glove cleaner. Alan Austen's desire for love ends up killing him because he realizes that it is impossible to find true love and uses the glove cleaner to escape..
